Energy kits available at township

Groveland Twp.-Area residents can now pick up energy kits at the township offices, thanks to the state Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants (EECBG) funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act).
The township received $53,700 to purchase 512 energy kits, which are now available for distribution to residents on a first-come-first served basis.
Bob DePalma, township supervisor, said 150 kits are reserved with the remainder available to township residents. They will need to have a utility bill to verify township residency.
The energy kits produced by Michigan GREEN should save residents about $100 per year, and maybe closer to $150 for some homeowners, said Doug Russell, Executive Director Michigan GREEN Executive Committee Member. The kits include such items as 1.5 GPM (gallon per minute) Earth Massage Showerheads, four-13 Watt CFLs (60W incandescent equivalent) lights, switch plates and outlet sealers.
In addition, the township also has an ample supply of mosquito control supplies available including spray, bug dunks for standing water and citronella candles.
