Hope blooms anew with Clarkston Elementary School’s Pink Tulip Project.
Students planted 500 tulips in honor of Sandy Winn, media specialist at the school. The ‘Mrs. Winn will WIN!? garden, planted this past October, is a symbol of hope and renewal for cancer patients and their families, said Patty Walters, fourth grade teacher.
Fourth grade students, along with Clarkston Junior High Leadership Team, raised $1,087 as part of the Pink Tulip Project.
“It served as a way for the students to show their support and care for their beloved teacher, Sandy Winn, who has bravely faced cancer treatment this year,” Walters said.
Proceeds go to the Maine Cancer Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Fund for cancer research and support programs. Pink Tulip Project was founded by Robin Whitten, diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. Clarkston Elementary’s garden is one of more than 70 around the country.
