It was a rough week for the Varsity Softball team as they lost all four games they played this week against North Farmington and Flint Kearsley.
In their doubleheader on Friday, April 23 against North Farmington, the Wildcat bats were silent as they scored a total of three runs in the two games.
They lost game one 2-1 and game two 5-2.
Senior Corrine Luxton pitched all 16 innings, striking out 12 and not walking a batter. Sophomore Amanda Boyor would score the only run for Oxford on her solo home run.
A defensive miscue cost the Wildcats in the second game against North Farmington. Tied at two in the bottom of the sixth inning, two Wildcat defenders collided, which allowed North Farmington to score three runs and take a 5-2 lead.
‘North Farmington is a solid team, but we didn’t hit the ball and challenge them the way I know we are capable of,? said Head Coach Kristi McDevitt.
The offensive woes continued against Kearsley on Monday, April 26.
Oxford lost 1-0 in the first game, only managing two hits while committing five errors in the game.
In the second game, the bats finally got going in the sixth inning when sophomore Hannah Rogers doubled and was driven in by on a single by senior Chelsea Kessler. Kessler would then score on a hit by senior Kelly Cartner, taking a 2-1 lead.
Kearsley would then score two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
‘We can’t wait until the fifth or sixth inning to finally get a hit, we have to put runners on base to test the defense,? said McDevitt.
The Wildcats are now 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the Flint Metro League. They travel down to Warren to participate in the Michigan Stars Tournament at Liberty Park on Saturday, May 1.
