Lady Kickers are leaving a dust of dirt in their path as they take down three more opponents in the season.
The wins now put them at 8-0, a record they are celebrating but not taking lightly as they head into another week of competition.
Sarah Wasilk, head coach for the Girls Varsity Soccer team, attributes the success to the team’s drive.
‘Last year we had eight ties,? explained Wasilk. ‘One of their goals was to quit tying. They focused on putting the game away early and knowing the game isn’t over.?
Another component for their success is teamwork and not relying on a handful of players to score during the game.
The week started with their win over West Bloomfield on April 20.
Mikayla Ferer scored a pair of goals and Lisa Lyons added another for the, 3-0 victory.
The girls headed to Southfield-Lathrup and put the Lady Chargers away early in the first half ending the game with a mercy, 10-0.
While it was a success and the team played against smaller bench than they are used to, the girls took away a few techniques to work on during practice.
‘Lathrup played an outside strap that worked,? said Wasilk. ‘We were called offsides a lot. It helped us to work on our lateral runs and stay inside.?
The girls beat Holly for their third win on Saturday, 3-0.
Ferer scored another pair of goals and Wagner put one away in the net for the third goal.
‘Holly will be tough,? Wasilk said before going into the game.
‘Coming away with a win gives the girls the confidence as they head into tougher games.?
The girls head to Royal Oak on Thursday.
‘Royal Oak will give us a better viewpoint of where we are at,? said Wasilk.
They play at Ferndale next Monday and Farmington on May 6.
‘The girls know to work hard and win the ball for the entire 80 minutes because anything can happen. They learned that the hard way last year (with the eight ties). We are not going to settle for it this year.?
Lady Kickers are on the road until May 13 when they host Birmingham Groves.
