The Girls Varsity Soccer team was able to break into the win column this past weekend when they took on Kearsley in the Flint Metro League Tournament that was held on Saturday, April 17 at Fenton.
The Wildcats won 3-0, with two goals coming from sophomore Brianna Johnson and junior Beth Downs scoring the other goal for Oxford.
‘The Kearsley game was a real strong game…we pretty much dominated,? said Head Coach Larry Ferris.
Other than the victory against Kearsley, the Wildcats suffered two losses and a tie over the course of the week.
On Monday, April 13, the girls lost 3-1 against Romeo High School. They followed up with a spirited 0-0 tie against Groves High School on Friday, April 16.
‘The game against Groves was a well fought and a well defended game…it’s was going to be a one goal game,? said Ferris. ‘The aggressiveness and the communication level of our kids was really strong,? he added.
In the Wildcats second game on April 17 against Lapeer West, the Wildcats not only suffered a 1-0 loss, but lost two of their players to injuries.
Freshman sweeper Alana Carroll suffered a broken wrist and another player suffered a sprained ankle.
Overall, the Wildcats are 1-4-2 on the season. They host Royal Oak on Friday, April 23 beginning at 6:45 p.m. at Oxford Elementary before traveling to Flint Kearsley on Monday, April 26.
