After taking a week off for spring break, the Varsity Wildcat Varsity Lacrosse team resumed their season on Monday, April 12 against West Bloomfield.
Unfortunately, the Wildcats lost a 10-4 game that Coach Joe Zmikly thought was sloppy.
‘Last night was rough. We actually went up 2-0 and then just started playing sloppy and let it get away. We played better in the second half, but it was too little, too late,? said Zmikly.
West Bloomfield held a 7-3 lead at halftime.
Oxford’s goals were scored by sophomore Garret Kovacic and freshman Piper Thaler, who each had two and junior Joshua Kimbrough made five saves.
‘On offense, we got stagnant and picky with our shots and defensively we didn’t apply enough pressure,? said Zmikly.
Zmikly added that Monday night’s game was the first time that he had full participation in over a week because half of his players were on vacation over the break.
‘That really hurt us,? continued Zmikly. ‘However, what we need to do is just get together and run the offense in practice sessions. The other team had the same problem we did, but we didn’t execute.?
The loss drops the Wildcats to 0-2 on the season.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier for Oxford as they travel to Troy High School on April 13 before starting a four game home stand on Friday, April 16 against Royal Oak High School at 7 p.m.
‘We have a tough schedule ahead of us, so we have to get back to work and go at it harder,? said Zmikly.
