Oxford youth got a chance to break out their bats and gloves on Saturday, Feb 20 at a baseball clinic run by Oakland University alumni Aaron Carpenter and several players from OU’s baseball team.
A total of 73 youths ranging in age from 6-12 participated in the event. They practiced their hitting, fielding, running, pitching and catching techniques for several hours.
Carpenter has been holding small hitting clinics in Oxford since Nov.; however this was his first full clinic in the area.
The OU players were Oxford’s very own Russell Luxton, Mike Carson (Attica), Joey Larson (Ludington), Ryan Schario (Royal Oak), John Estes (Blissfield) and Todd Durham (Inverness, Illinois).
In the future, Carpenter plans on continuing the hitting clinics and wants to do a yearly clinic in Oxford.
‘I want to make it bigger and better and help the kids who want to play baseball in Oxford,? he said.
The players held a 15-minute question-and-answer session at the end of the event.
