The Varsity Boys Swimming team finished their dual portion of the season by winning their last two meets against Kearsley and Lapeer.
They defeated Kearsley 125-60 on Thursday, Feb. 11. Head Coach Jackie Boswell was very pleased with how well the boys swam during the meet.
‘We had some record breaking times and many of our times were consistent with previous meets,? she said. ‘I’m very proud of my team and how they have been practicing and competing.?
The results of the Kearsley meet:
In the 200 Medley Relay: Oxford’s A Relay of junior Kyle Shick, freshman Zachary Lavender, sophomore Josiah Tasch, and senior Austin Westmoreland took first with a time of 2:00.26. Oxford’s B Relay of Keller, Clark, Bell, and Hency took 3rd.
Freshman Jarred Butler took first and set a new school record of 2:02.40 in the 200 Freestyle. Sophomore Taylor Keller took second and sophomore Nolan Salani was fourth for Oxford.
Oxford took the top three spots in the 200 Individual Medley with junior Jimmy Walker coming in first with a time of 2:27.93. Tasch came in second and Lavender was third.
In the 50 Free, junior Dylan Hency was second for Oxford with a time of 26.32. Westmoreland took fourth and sophomore Riley McIntosh was fifth.
Jake Clark took second in diving for Oxford, establishing a school record of 157.10. Shick was third.
Walker took first in the 100 Butterfly with a 1:04.59 while junior Corey Bell took second.
Hency took first in the 100 Freestyle with a 57.84. Sophomore Taylor Keller finished second while McIntosh was fourth for Oxford.
The Wildcats took the top two spots in the 500 Freestyle. Butler was first with a time of 5:42.76 and Tasch finished second for the Wildcats.
Oxford’s A Relay of Walker, Westmoreland, Keller, and Butler took first in the 200 Free Relay. They also established a school record time of 1:42.23. Oxford’s B Relay of Clark, sophomore Sean Thomas, Bell and Lavender was third for Oxford.
Shick claimed the top spot in the 100 Backstroke with his time of 1:08.79. Sophomore Daniel Stockard was third and senior Paul Belmonte finished fourth for the Wildcats.
Lavender came in first for Oxford in the 100 Breaststroke with his time of 1:14.95. Clark and Westmoreland came in third and fourth place respectively.
Oxford’s A Relay of Butler, Hency, Tasch, and Walker took first with a new school record of 3:51. 67 in the 400 Free Relay. Oxford’s B Relay of Bell, McIntosh, Salani, and Shick came in second.
The Wildcats would have a much tougher time in their meet against Lapeer on Tuesday, Feb. 16. The meet wouldn’t be decided until the final swim of the evening, where Oxford pulled out a 97-86 victory thanks to a first and third place in the 400 meter Free Relay.
They had to overcome disqualifications for false starts and swimmers who were out sick.
‘The meet was very exciting,? said Boswell. ‘It was an awesome way to finish off the regular season and start preparing for the League Meet at Fenton.?
The results from the meet against Lapeer:
Oxford’s B Relay of Hency, Clark, Bell, and McIntosh took second for Oxford in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 2:10.22.
In the 200 Free, Butler took first with a time of 2:02.68, while Keller placed third and McIntosh was fifth for Oxford.
Walker too 1st in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:25.59. Lavender and Tasch came in third and fourth respectively for Oxford.
Hency took 2nd in the 50 Free with a time of 25.38. Bell and Westmoreland came in fourth and fifth respectively.
Clark established a school record for diving points with 170.45 after finishing first. Shick was third.
In the 100 Fly, Walker came in second with a time of 1:04.50, while Bell came in fourth for Oxford.
Hency won the 100 Freestyle for Oxford with his time of 57.79. McIntosh came in 3rd.
Butler set a new school record in the 500 Freestyle and came in 1st with a time of 5:28.30. Tasch was fourth for Oxford.
In the 200 Free Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of Lavender, Keller, Westmoreland, and Butler came in second with a time of 1:45.12. Oxford’s B Relay of Clark, Thomas, Salani, and Bell came in third.
Shick came in first in the 100 Backstroke and established the school record with his time of 1:08.26. Keller came in fourth for the Wildcats.
In the 100 Breaststroke: Lavender came in first for Oxford with a time of 1:14.71. Clark and Belmonte came in third and fourth place respectively.
The 400 Free Relay saw Oxford’s A Relay of Butler, Hency, Keller, and Walker come in first with a school record of 3:50.81. Oxford’s B Relay of McIntosh, Thomas, Salani, and Shick came in 3rd place.
The Wildcats will swim in the league meet with preliminaries on Friday, Feb. 26 and finals on Saturday, Feb. 27.
