The Boys Varsity hockey team continued to roll through the Flint Metro League after a 5-3 victory over Brandon on Wednesday, Jan. 27.
Overall, the Wildcats are 8-1 in the FML, one game behind Fenton in league standings.
Oxford jumped out to 2-0 lead in the first after goals by sophomore Alex Kaks and freshman Jimmy Wallington. Brandon clamped down after that, holding the Wildcats scoreless in the second period.
Brandon was able to tie the score at two when the final horn sounded in the second, but the Wildcats came out strong in the third, outshooting Brandon 18-3 in the period en route to scoring three goals.
Sophomore Nolan Chapman, senior Will Buday and senior Dennis Siitari each scored in the third.
‘We were very unhappy with our play in the second period,? said Head Coach Dave Hague. ‘We were too complacent and got away from our game plan a bit. With that, I was happy to see the boys come back with a very strong third period.
The Wildcats were led by freshman Brennen Orr, who had three assists in the game and sophomore Dean Couwlier’s two assists.
The next game for the Wildcats is a home showdown with Detroit Country Day on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at the Troy Sports Center beginning at 7:00 p.m. They then play at Fenton on Saturday, Feb. 6 in a game that could decide the FML league title.
