The 2009/2010 version of the Oxford Middle School Cheerleading squad made history during Jan. 9 Oxford Invite.
They finished in first place for the first time ever. The Wildcats finished four points ahead of runner-up Armada to capture the first-ever tournament victory. ‘Our program is kind of young at the middle school, so this is the best team we ever had,? said Middle School coach Kelly Oles.
The girls racked up 400.5 points at the end of the three rounds.
‘The girls were very excited,? Oles said.
She added that this was her first victory in her three years of coaching the cheerleaders at the Middle School.
After a successful Invite, the girls followed the victory with a solid third place effort at the Brandon meet on Monday, Jan. 18.
Oles has seen a vast improvement in the girls confidence since their first practice.
‘Some of these girls had never even cheered before and they have learned so fast and they get it now. That is so awesome. As a coach, I am so proud of them,? she said.
