The mystery of what is going to happen to the vacant Kalloway’s building has been solved.
Motorists over the past week have seen a big red ‘SOLD? sign on the property and the parking lot lights being turned off at night, giving the indication that the building will be occupied in the near future.
The building, previously occupied by Kalloway’s Restaurant and Pub, sat vacant for nearly a year before Sterling Heights resident Andy Stamevski bought it from Oxford Bank for $875,000.
He plans on putting in an upscale American-style restaurant, bar and lounge called Chardonnay Restaurant and Lounge, with a timeframe of opening it and serving food within three months, even if he doesn’t have his liquor license.
‘It’s going to be a restaurant, bar and lounge,? said Stamveski. ‘All three floors will be used differently and all three floors will be open to the public seven days a week.?
He added that dining will be available on all three floors, with the main dining area on the main floor, an upscale lounge on the top floor and a bar and grill in the basement.
The lounge will feature higher grades of drinks and wine, along with couches and lower tables. He noted that the higher grade drinks would also be available in the main dining area and bar as well. The lounge will also have a classier feel to it, but Stamevski said he wouldn’t turn anyone away who wants to sit up there.
He plans on serving family style breakfasts, lunches and dinners that come with a unlimited selection of bread, which will be brought over from his other business, Russo Bakery in Clinton Township.
‘I’ll serve breakfast and lunch that no other restaurant has there. I’m pretty sure that it will be received well because it will be charged reasonably, but the quality and type of food we are going to serve is going to be unmatched by anyone out there,? he said.
As an example, he stated that one could have a $10 meal, which would include soup, salad, main course, dessert and all the bread you could eat.
‘There is no extra charge for any of the food that will be brought in, including the bread that will be part of it.?
There would also be no surcharge for asking for additional pieces of bread or different variety of breads he added.
The kitchen will operate throughout the day, with breakfast served exclusively before transferring into the lunch and dinner menus, which would conclude around 11 p.m.
‘Hardly anybody goes out to eat after 10 p.m., but you need something to snack on while you are drinking and talking…and a lot of the stuff will be offered at no charge,? he said.
Stamevski hopes to have the inside remodeled in the next three months before beginning to work on the outside of the building during the spring.
What attracted him to Oxford was the small town feel that he gets when he rides his bike through Oxford. ‘I hope that I do decent business, and I am looking forward to meeting all those guys in the cars and balloons and the people in the area,? he said.
