The Wildcat Varsity Soccer season came to a heartbreaking end in the first round of districts on Monday night as they lost 1-0 to Waterford Mott on penalty kicks.
After the Wildcats failed to capitalize on a golden chance during the first minute of overtime, the game was going to be decided on penalty kicks.
Mott’s goalie shut the Wildcats down, holding them to two goals in five shots. The final tally was 4-2.
‘You hate to see a game decided on penalty kicks, but that’s what ended up happening,? said Head Coach John Thaler.
‘The boys left everything they had out on the field,? he said.
In a match-up against Lake Orion, one of the top ten teams in the state, the Dragons proved they were to much for the Wildcats to handle as they lost 8-1 on Wednesday, Oct 14.
‘It was a match that was tight for the first half and ten (minutes) into the second half, but after that the floodgates opened up,? said Thaler.
Sophomore Marco Bonfiglio scored the only goal for the Wildcats, which came on a penalty kick early in the second half.
‘I’m very proud of their accomplishments this year, their sportsmanship, dedication and above all their teamwork. This was truly a unique and outstanding group of players this year,? said Thaler.
