An Addison Township man was issued a ticket for disorderly conduct Oct. 9 while taking pictures of an accident scene on Ray Rd., west of N. Oxford Rd.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s report, the 61-year old resident walked up to the scene and stood among the firefighters while they were trying to extract the injured person from the vehicle.
The man started taking photos of the injured victim and crash scene with his flash camera. A sheriff’s deputy asked who he was, and he reported that he was taking pictures for the newspaper. He later told the officer he was taking pictures to give the newspaper.
Oxford Fire Chief Pete Scholz then walked up to the man and told him that he was in the way and had to leave. The man told the fire chief he wouldn’t leave unless Scholz said ‘please?.
The deputy asked him to leave the accident scene because he was hindering the firefighters? work.
According to the report, he man refused to leave, said he had every right to take pictures, then flashed the camera in the deputy’s face.
The deputy then ordered the man to leave the scene and go home or he would write a ticket.
The man then became ‘very defiant,? according to the report, and told the deputy he wouldn’t write him a ticket because he knew his rights. He still refused to leave.
As a result, the officer wrote the man a ticket for disorderly conduct.
The man took the ticket, proceeded to walk past the deputy toward the accident scene, saying he wanted to take a photo of the tow truck at work.
When the deputy informed him that he would be arrested for resisting and obstructing if he persisted in his actions, the report stated the man looked at the officer and said, ‘You can’t do that!?
As the officer began to pull out his handcuffs, the man turned and walked back to his car, yelling ‘I’ll see you in court!?
He left the scene without further incident.
