Lady Wolves keep improving

Spikers? lucky number for their first home match was 25 and 16.
It was the score for all three sets as the Girls Varsity Volleyball beat Farmington High School.
‘It’s a big win for us,? said Coach Kelly Avenall. ‘This was our first home match so I told them, we only have four home matches this year and they need to savour it for awhile. Just go at teams and take it to them at home.?
The girls already knew what to expect from Farmington after facing them at the West Bloomfield Invitational in August.
‘They are real young,? said Avenall. ‘I know they are going to get better by the end of the year. So if we see them again we will have to keep that in mind.?
Jenna Coates had 15 digs and three aces and Allison Reis had 10 kills.
Avenall noted Junior Haley Barker and Sophomore Stephanie Marani stood out during the game.
‘Haley had four aces. She had a great serving game,? said Avenall.
‘Stephanie definitely had a shining moment tonight,? she added. ‘She had four kills tonight and is just getting better and better every day she plays.?
They took the momentum to Birmingham Groves and beat them, 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-15).
Coates had 15 digs and Jessica Frakes had 12 kills and Reis had 10.
The girls played Troy on Tuesday and host Lahser on Thursday.
‘All I can hope for right now is that we keep improving and keep putting into play what we are doing in practice,? said Avenall.
Avenall also has seen the younger players grow and become more and more confident.
‘With a few matches under our belt, I regularly play four sophomores and they are gelling better with the team. I think they don’t have as many butterflies and that is definitely helping us,? she explained.
The girls are now 15-4-2 and 3-0 in OAA Red.
JV plays at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.
