The Varsity Boys Soccer team began Flint Metro League play with a 2-0 victory over Clio on Monday, Sept. 14.
Sophomore Mike Kitchner had a goal and assist for the Wildcats and Sophomore Marco Bonfiglio added the second goal of the evening.
‘We played well below our ability in the first half. We were very nervous and not very aggressive,? said Coach John Thaler. ‘After our halftime prep talk, the boys understood what we needed to do. We created more opportunities for ourselves and it paid off as we scored on the counter attack.?
The win against Clio gives Thaler 101 wins while coaching the Wildcats.
Earlier in the week, the boys were involved in a high scoring affair with North Farmington on Thursday, Sept. 10.
The boys lost 5-3 to the Raiders.
The Wildcats trailed 3-1 after halftime. Senior Captain Travis Roth scored his second goal of the game five minutes into the second half to make it 3-2, but the Raiders pulled away with two more goals before Sophomore Doug Klimbal scored to make it 5-3. The boys are at Kearsley on Sept. 16 and travel to Lapeer West Sept. 21.
