Kickers answered Rochester Adams first goal with a message – they weren’t going to take it lightly.
Jake Ray tied the score with Adams putting the soccer ball into the corner of the net with 5:42 remaining in the first half last Thursday.
Wolves picked up momentum and John Dushaw found the next opportunity after the scoreboard reached 30 seconds left in the first half.
He took possession of the ball in Clarkston’s territory and pushed forward into the Highlander’s turf.
He passed two defense players and the goalie before pulling his leg back for a swift kick – putting the ball in the net’s left corner as 23 seconds remained.
‘They showed their resiliency by scoring two goals right away and not letting that one goal bring them down,? said Wolves Coach Adam Bican.
Adams added another goal eight minutes into the next half to tie 2-2.
Both sides drove forward to break the score, but it ended as a tie.
Jarrett Kersten and Ray added an assist while offense made five shots on goal. Andrew Campbell saved five shots during the night.
‘Jake and John played fantastic games,? said Bican. ‘I was very happy with the way we played. We gave Adams the same intensity they gave us. The boys are probably disappointed because they had a very high work ethic.
We would have like to see a different result. We learned a lot about Rochester Adams and we look forward to facing them in districts.?
The boys played Rochester earlier in the week and defeated them with their seventh shut-out and a lone goal from Dushaw.
‘That was a tough game,? said Bican. ‘It was an extremely physical game.No goals were let it and it’s a nice win.?
‘We need to take care of opportunities when they are presented in front of us,? said Bican.
‘I think a lot of it has to do with lack of concentration and they don’t realize they don’t come around very often. They have to be ready for them.?
The Wolves head to Troy on Thursday and will host Stoney Creek on Tuesday.
JV begins at 5:30 p.m. and varsity follows.
