The varsity boys and girls cross country teams got off to a solid start this past week as two members of each squad medaled in the Adam’s Invite on Thursday, Sept 3.
For the girls, the team finished fifth out of 11 teams. They were lead by Freshman Brooke Kovacic, who set the fourth fastest freshman time in the history of Oxford with her time of 19:39.5. She finished third overall.
Freshman Ashley Burr finished 13th overall with a time of 20:40.7, which was the 11th fastest time in school history.
Both Kovacic and Burr medaled for the Wildcats.
Senior Captain Shannon Seeley finished 35th with a time of 22:08, while Junior Captain Megan Seeley finished 41st with a time of 22:24. Senior Captain Kate Wolanin’s time of 22:44 placed her 51st.
The boys were able to finish in sixth place out of 10 teams. Senior Alex Pollack was the first medalist for the boys, finishing in tenth place with a time of 17:40. Junior Captain Dylan Smith was the other medalist, his time of 17:45 placing him 18th.
Sophomore Zach Kelley finished 35th with a time of 18:34. Sophomore Alex Smith’s time of 18:48 placed him 40th, and Freshman Ross Chapman finished 41st with a time of 19:05.
‘I am extremely proud of everyone who ran,? said Varsity Cross Country coach Ray Sutherland. ‘It was a great effort and everyone was pleased with how we ran.?
The next meet for the teams is Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Brother Rice Invite.
