Summer fun at Porter’s Orchard

Atlas Twp.-Last fall, Ray Porter owner of Porter’s Orchard, 12060 Hegel Road impressed the cider world and finished in second place during Michigan’s 12th Annual Apple Cider Contest, during the Great Lakes Fruit, Vegetable and Farm Market Expo conference.
Porter’s recipe for success at his local farm will continue with the tastes of summer and the addition of ice cream, cider slushies and picnics.
New for 2009, Porter’s Ochard has added a petting zoo, along with pavilions for gatherings such as family reunions, birthday and business parties. They will also include all the Cook’s Farm Dairy ice cream you can eat for up to 20 guests.
‘While it may be too early for apples during the summer months, it’s always the right time for a picnic,? said Porter. ‘We still have plenty of cider and the late season blend is some of the sweetest’it’s not just for fall anymore. We realize times are tough right now, so what a better way to spend time with family and friends than right here.? Details: 810-636-7156.
