The rain poured onto the field as the ball landed at Alex Rodebach’s feet during a scuffle in front of Birmingham Seaholm’s net.
The senior made her move and kicked it into the right corner of the net, giving Clarkston one point with ten minutes remaining in the first half in last Tuesday’s game.
Lady Wolves kept the pace and won their first game of the season, 1-0.
‘We played the best game we have played all season,? said Coach Sarah Wasilk.
‘We played hard for 80 minutes. We played together for 80 minutes. We connected well – that is what we are looking at for the season, putting two halves together.?
Goalie Demaree Wells made seven saves in her first shut-out.
With the momentum and confidence from the win, the girls gave North Farmington a battle.
Both teams were scoreless in the Thursday night game.
The key component for Clarkston was the defense players as they kept the game tied and kept the ball under control.
‘North Farmington has some really fast forwards,? said Wasilk. ‘They knew how to capitalize on our defenders. My defense did phenomenal. My defenders recovered over and over. Breanne Timm and Audrey Batchik did an amazing job.?
Farmington went for the Wolves? net during a few plays at the beginning of the second half.
Batchik kept them on their feet as she swiftly moved in and diverted the ball away.
During the remainder of the game, the girls turned on the heat and put more shots on Farmington’s goal, ending with a total of three shots for the night.
Wells saved six shots.
‘Tonight we played a lot better the second half than we did the first,? said Wasilk. ‘Old habits die hard I guess.?
The girls will keep last week’s games in mind as they head into this week.
They lost to Royal Oak on Monday, 2-1. Madison Waller scored the lone goal.
‘They are going to be tough,? said Wasilk going into the game. ‘I am thankful we played Royal Oak last season. they moved up to Division I.?
Lady Wolves host Berkley on Thursday and will be ready for another battle.
‘There isn’t a team on our schedule that isn’t going to be easy,? said Wasilk.
