Area residents are encouraged to participate in a study regarding the development of a system to handle solid waste for Brandon and Groveland townships.
The study is paid for by a Capital and Cooperative Initiative Revolving Fund grant (CCIRF). Resource Recycling Systems of Ann Arbor was awarded the contract to research the project in January. Other north Oakland County communities including Springfield Township, Independence Township, Waterford, White Lake and West Bloomfield are also in the study.
The Brandon Township Board discussed the CCIRF study update at their meeting April 6, at their township offices, 395 Mill St. The Groveland Township Board received an update April 13, at their township offices, 4695 Grange Hall Road.
‘Here’s a chance for residents from both Brandon and Groveland to express their thoughts and concerns regarding the CCIRF study,? said Bob DePalma, Groveland Township supervisor.
‘There are many options out there’we have an opportunity to save money.?
Groveland residents can respond online at www.grovelandtownship.net or if you live in Brandon Township it’s www.brandontownship.us. Copies of the study are available at the township offices.
Currently, residents in both townships use ‘subscription services,? securing their own waste haulers.
Kathy Thurman, Brandon Township supervisor, said the study is a great way to learn more about recycling and keeping the community clean.
‘I hope residents will take the time to respond,? said Thurman. ‘We can do a lot to help the environment right here in our area.?
During the last few study meetings, discussion has focused on conversion technologies, one of the original goals of the study. Conversion technologies offer alternatives to dumping waste in landfills.
Last week was the deadline for companies to contact RRS to offer potential plans. No conclusions have been drawn from the CCIRF study yet, which is set to conclude at the beginning of May.
