Touches give hall a fresh look

Volunteers with American Legion Post 377 spent a month renovating their meeting hall on Mary Sue.
‘It was pretty dingy before,? said Greg Thurber, Post 377 junior vice president. “The paint was donated. Labor was donated. This is the first time we’ve worked on it in about 30 years.”
The meeting hall, built about 60 years ago, seats about 225 people, sporting a renovated ceiling, walls, and stage, new ceiling fans, and television monitors.
“It used to be reserved for members, but now we’d like to start renting it to the public,” Thurber said. “Because of the economy, we have to change to keep the legion going. And there aren’t many places to rent in Clarkston.”
The hall, kitchen, and outdoor pavilion on the beach of Lake Oakland, seating about 150, are available for rent.
“Weddings, graduations, anniversaries, baby showers, anything,” he said.
The pavilion features barbecue, full electrical hookups and lighting, and a spot for live music. For information, call Post 377, 4819 Mary Sue Street, at 248-895-3728.
