Mayer grew up in Minnesota and started playing guitar and writing music in high school. After studying theology and music in college, then two years in a seminary, he decided the priesthood wasn’t for him. A part-time job as a church music director allowed time to play clubs and colleges, and write and record his own music. After eight years, quit his job and started touring full time in 1995. He recorded eight CDs, selling more than 50,000 independently.
He writes and performs bright, whimsical and humorous songs about the human journey, beauty, and the mystery of the world.
