A non-profit organization is trying to to make it easier to attend the prom for girls who don’t have money to spend on an expensive dress.
During February, the Oxford Public Library will serve as a drop-off site for Hope Closet (www.hopecloset.com).
The organization will rent an empty store in a local mall in March, with girls making appointments to come in and shop during the week of April 18-25.
To shop, girls will need to show a school identification card or a report card showing their current enrollment.
Donations to Hope Closet must be dry cleaned with no stains or tears and can include prom dresses, formals and bridesmaid dresses along with shoes, purses and jewelry.
According to Charli Osborne, the head of the library’s Teen Services, they last participated in the Hope Closet program in 2007 and received about 40 donated dresses along with shoes, jewelry and other accessories.
Donations may be made at the Oxford library anytime the library is open with the rack being set up next to the Circulation Desk.
