I have lived in the Village of Oxford for 30 years.
1. Why are you running for township office? What experience, skills, talents or qualities do you have to offer the public?
As a long time Oxford resident I have seen many changes over the years, some good and some bad. I would like to bring a fresh perspective to the challenges facing our community. Oxford is a great place to live and work and I want to contribute to its future. For the past 12 years I have worked for the Oxford Village DPW, this gives me a unique point of view because I work hands on with residents and in the community. They share what their concerns and expectations are for their local government. People want someone who will look out for them and do what’s right, if elected I will do both.
2. What are the top three issues/priorities facing the township and how would you go about addressing them?
1. Economic responsibility. If elected I will look for ways to cut costs and waste. We need to keep our local taxes as low as possible and look for ways to retire our debt.
2. Attracting new businesses to our community. The Township could look at different ways to attract new and emerging business sectors to our area by utilizing work already being done at the state and county level. Having more local employment could help alleviate some congestion on M24, save residents the costs of commuting, and create circles of local economic activity.
3. Improving the relationship between the Village and Township. Both sides have wasted to much money and time fighting each other instead of moving our community forward.
3. What would you do to increase public involvement/input in township decision-making? Listening to what residents want and their concerns is very important. Residents should feel welcome to share their ideas on how to improve the quality of life in their community. Looking for different ways to publicize meeting times, agendas and trustee contact information may grow resident interest in becoming involved with the community. Having special town hall meetings or other events could also provide more public involvement. Residents who live in the Village should realize they are also part of the Township and what happens in the Township affects them as well. If elected I will work with my fellow trustees, listening to all Township residents in forming the priorities and direction of your Township government.
