School lunch prices rise

Brandon Schools-The cost of hot lunch is on its way up.
Beginning the 2003/2004 school year, elementary, high school and adult lunch prices will increase by .25 due to increased costs say school officials. The new hot lunch prices for the 2003-04 school year are $1.75 for elementary students, $2 for high school and $2.65 for adult lunch.
The increase, the first in eight years, will cover a $9,000 wage increase, a $19,000 food cost increase and equipment increases of $11,400.
Prior to the increases, Brandon Schools was among the lowest school lunch cost, ranking 27th of 28 Oakland County school districts. Only Pontiac schools, at $1 for elementary schools and $1.25 high school was lower. Bloomfield Hills school lunches cost the most in Oakland County at $2.40 for elementary schools and $2.65 for high schools.
Bandon School District serves about 160,000 lunches each school year.
‘Next year we’re expecting a deficit of about $40,000,? said Bart Jenniches, Brandon Schools Superintendent. ‘Without the price increase, we’d have take it out of savings.?
