Every Halloween the house at 9 Lakeville Ct. in Oxford Village is transformed into a spook-tacular display that both frightens and delights the trick-or-treating kiddies.
Owner Glen Binkley and his grandson, Jon Brooks, have done it just for fun for the last nine years, but this year he’s doing it for a good cause ? his wife, Vivian.
Last October, Vivian was diagnosed with epiglottic cancer. She’s been in remission since Christmas Eve after having undergone radiation and chemotherapy.
Unfortunately, the Binkleys still have outstanding medical bills that need to be paid along with rent and utilities.
So this year, Glen decided to use his Halloween graveyard, complete with headstones, cobwebs and severed body parts, to earn some cash to pay those bills.
The public is invited to come on out to the house Saturday, Oct. 25 and Sunday, Oct. 26 for a frightfully good time.
Visitors, if they survive, will be able to have their photos taken with horror film legends such as Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Chucky, Pinhead, Damien, Carrie (don’t mention the prom thing) and other creatures that go bump in the night.
The photos are free, but donations will be accepted with the proceeds going toward helping pay the Binkley’s bills.
No need to worry about Jason’s machete, Freddy’s razor claws or Leatherface’s chainsaw ? the characters will be played by either local residents or mannequins/dummies. Which ones are animate and inanimate is anyone’s guess.
Hot dogs, pop and chips will be available for sale, while cider and donuts are free. Free face painting will also be available for kiddies.
Due to her treatments, Vivian is unable to speak, however, she still communicates with a pen and pad. ‘Have to stay positive,? Vivian wrote. ‘People need to appreciate the little things in life. I do!?
Glen appreciates all the medical help his wife has received. ‘Hospitals are just brick and mortar,? he said. ‘It’s the doctors, nurses and staff inside that are what’s great.?
