The annual Dog Days of August in downtown Lake Orion helps merchants clean out their summer inventory and prepare for the fall, and many businesses hold sidewalk sales during the event.
This year, the Downtown Development Authority wants to make it a community-wide event, and village residents will be allowed to hold their own sidewalk/garage sales on their property.
A village ordinance allows for one residential garage sale per resident each year, at a permit fee of $1. Last week, the village council agreed with a DDA recommendation and waived those provisions for anyone participating in the Dog Days of August promotion.
Residents wishing to participate must, however, register with the DDA.
This year’s Dog Days is slated for Aug. 7-9. Look for more details in the next two weeks in both The Review and the Ad-vertizer.
