Thanks in part to the hard work of community volunteers over the past 20 years, Orion Township has over 38 miles of paths, sidewalks and trails to boast about.
The Orion Township Safety Path Advisory Committee is celebrating the 20th anniversary of safety paths in Orion, and they’re inviting the community to join in the fun.
The celebration runs this Friday and Saturday, July 18 and 19, from noon to 5:45 p.m. and 9:30 a.m. to noon, respectively. The event will be held at the Orion Township Public Library.
According to Clerk Jill Bastian, this is an opportunity for the community to find out more about Orion’s safety paths, view an updated map and chat with members of the committee.
‘We’re encouraging people to come by with any questions or comments they may have,? she added.
In addition to those activities, on Saturday morning, 10 a.m., the committee will also hold a ceremony to recognize past and present members of the committee and thank them for their years of service.
‘It’s a lot of nice people who have spent a great amount of hours volunteering over the years,? Bastian said. ‘They’re very good people, and we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished.?
The Safety Path Committee is a citizen-initiated program, and through their hard work, over 38 miles of pedestrian pathways are available in the community, providing Orion residents access to schools, parks, shopping, the library, the Paint Creek Trailway and the Polly Ann Trail, according to Bastian.
