District adds Kast, Stucky to administrative team

School may not be in session, but that doesn’t mean the Lake Orion School Board isn’t hard at work.
At their board meeting last week, the board appointed two familiar faces to the administrative team.
Waldon Principal Heidi Kast has been named as the new Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, and Interim Director of Special Education Julie Stucky has been named to that position officially, having served in the interim position for the past year.
?(Kast and Stucky) are two more pieces in the puzzle of our administration team,? Superintendent Kenneth Gutman said. ‘These are people who will really move us forward, and I’m really excited.?
According to Gutman, Kast was selected out of six candidates who were interviewed and screened by a committee of five. She was unanimously chosen for the position.
‘It’s a distinct honor to recommend Heidi as the next assistant superintendent,? he added, noting that during her time as Waldon principal, Kast was selected as an administrator of year for the state of Michigan, as well as Waldon receiving a Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary Award.
‘It’s truly an honor to work and serve in this district,? Kast said. ‘From the first day, when I student taught at the high school, I knew that I wanted to be in Lake Orion.?
‘I truly appreciate everyone’s support and I look forward to having a great, productive 2008-2009 school year,? she added.
Kast isn’t the only familiar face added to the team, as Stucky is a Lake Orion High School graduate and has served the district in many different capacities.
According to Director of Human Resources Jo Hornbeck, a committee of nine individuals ‘overwhelmingly? chose Stucky out of six candidates for the Director of Special Education position.
‘Julie has always had her heart in Lake Orion,? Hornbeck said.
Like Kast, Stucky is excited about getting to work.
‘I truly am doing exactly what I want to do, and I will continue to work with all learners and really move forward and make sure we address all challenges,? Stucky said.
Both Kast and Stucky have started in their positions, and, along with Gutman, look forward to the next year.
‘I know we have a lot of work ahead of us, and there is not a team I’d rather work with,? said Gutman. ‘You’re such great additions to that team.?
‘You will do great things for our children,? he added. ‘You are both focused on what’s best for students at all times.?
Look for more about both Kast and Stucky and their goals later this summer.
