It was another successful Fourth of July celebration on the streets and in the sky above Lake Orion last weekend.
The Lake Orion Lions Club put on the annual Jubilee, while the Lake Orion Fireworks Association put on Friday night’s show.
‘Everybody seemed to be well-behaved,? said Lake Orion Police Lieutenant Harold Rossman. ‘There were very few tickets issued and very few arrests.?
The July 4 fireworks show got rave reviews from those on or near Lake Orion, and mixed reviews from those a bit farther away.
‘We had a lot of new displays and a grand finale with 2,000 shots in it,? said LOFA President Carl Cyrowski.
‘We had some complaints about viewing, especially for those that weren’t right near the lake,? he added. ‘If you were in a good location, it was spectacular.?
The show moved to barges in the lake near Squaw Island three years ago, helping alleviate serious safety concerns about the former shooting site near M-24 at Green’s Park.
This year, organizers said government regulations and importing issues forced the use of smaller shells.
Cyrowski said this magnified the viewing difficulty for those farther away from the lake, adding that they hope to secure bigger rounds (and thus higher shots), especially for the grand finale, next year.
Viewers near M-24 and Atwater said that unlike previous years, the finale could not be seen from that location, only heard.
In the meantime, Cyrowski noted that the LOFA is still accepting donations to cover the cost of the show.
‘We’re scrambling to get the last little bit in,? he said.
Donations can be mailed to the Lake Orion Fireworks Association at 1520 S. Lapeer Road, Suite 104, Lake Orion, MI? 48360.
