Goodrich grad keeps Buick Open green

Tyler Frantangelo is surrounded by green at the Buick Open. His green thumb fits in perfectly.
Frantangelo has been a groundskeeper at the Buick Open for the past two years. He is responsible for planting flowers and mulching, as well as maintaining their appearance by watering the area.
‘I set up flowers like in the Buick emblem, too,? Frantangelo said.
The 18-year-old Goodrich resident said he works with friends from school.
Goodrich’s Nick Arnold and Brett Johnson work beside Frantangelo throughout the week of the Open.
‘We work together every day,? said Johnson, 18. ‘We are out here for five to six hours a day.?
Johnson said even though he hates waking up at 7 a.m. to get to the course by 8 a.m., it is worth it when he sees professional golfers.
‘We get pretty close to them,? Johnson said.
Frantangelo said the work started Friday, June 20, and he will be working until Sunday, the last day of the tournament.
Frantangelo played on the Goodrich varsity golf team. Though he said it would be poetic if a love of golf brought him to the Open, that is not the case.
‘Really, my neighbor got me the job and that’s about it,? he said.
The boys drive around the country club on a golf cart, hauling flowers, water and mulch from location to location.
‘It’s fun driving the cart,? Johnson said. ‘I’m pretty good at it.?
