Summer concerts across Orion are music to the ears

If you’re a music lover, you don’t have to look far for entertainment this summer. Between Orion Township Parks and Recreation, downtown Lake Orion and the Orion Art Center, they have you covered.
Currently, Parks and Recreation is hosting Concerts in the Park on Tuesday nights at Civic Center Park (behind Orion Township Hall). Concerts start at 7:30 p.m.
According to Recreation Program Supervisor Jennifer Vezina, they try to get a wide variety of music.
‘I like to get some old favorites and I try to get some new stuff,? she said, noting that upcoming concert, Rich Eddy’s Rocking Oldies on July 9, is a crowd favorite.
Chautauqua Express, a kids? favorite, on July 15, and Ernie May & His Banjo Friends, a benefit concert with donations goinig to the Darci Seipke Kidney Transplant Fund, on July 22 round out the Concerts in the Park.
‘Even when it’s hot, it’s always nice in the park,? Vezina said. ‘There is a lot of shade and usually a breeze.?
‘Come out for a nice evening with the family,? she added.
Snacks are available for purchase at the concerts, and also benefit the Seipke Fund.

Starting Wednesday, July 9, downtown Lake Orion will kick off the Gazebo Concert Series in Children’s Park at 7 p.m.
The series starts on July 9 with Jennie Knaggs & the Sure Shots, a high-energy acoustic string band that features a mix of traditional folk songs, western swing tunes, and spirited originals.

Monday nights in August will feature Music on the Porch at the Orion Art Center, starting at 7 p.m.
According to Orion Art Center Director Reggie Harrison, their concert series will also focus a variety of music types.
‘We want to bring all forms of art to the community,? she said. ‘Visual is only one facet.?
‘We have beautiful grounds, the perfect setting for music,? Harrison added, noting that the Paint Creek runs right through the art center’s backyard.
