Council OKs budget, inks village manager raise

Ortonville- The village council approved 5-1 to give Village Manager Ed Coy a 5 percent raise, as well as a $600 per year allowance for mileage.
Councilmember Melanie Nivelt voted no. Councilmember Aileen Champion was absent.
‘I’m appreciative,? said Coy, who previously made $46,350 per year and will now receive $48,667.50.
Nivelt said she voted no because she felt Coy should receive either a five percent raise with no mileage bonus or a 3 percent raise with the mileage bonus.
The council discussed Coy’s contract in closed session. When they returned to open session, they also approved $1 per hour pay increases for both Larry Brown, the part-time treasurer, and Julie Alexander, the part-time clerk, raising their salaries to $18 per hour respectively.
The general clerk, Diana Bertapelle, was also approved for a 50 cents per hour raise.
Earlier in the meeting, the council unanimously approved the 2008-2009 budget, to take effect July 1.
The budget has total revenues of $635,300 and total expenditures of $634,018.
