The Dragon girls? soccer team fell 6-0 to Rochester Adams last Saturday in a rare morning league game, but finished their week with a 2-1 record in the tough OAA I.
‘Today, a couple of breaks didn’t go our way early and it seemed like we were running uphill most of the day,? Coach Ken Snage said. ‘To have a three-win week in our league, you have to be at the top of your game every single day.?
In spite of the lopsided loss, the coach had mostly positives to say afterwards.
‘The week went well,? Snage said. ‘Stoney Creek is having a good year and we beat them, and Lahser was a finalist in the state last season (in Division 2).?
The team beat Stoney Creek 2-0 last Tuesday and earned a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over Lahser Thursday, getting the tying and go-ahead goals from Niki Read.
Kelsey Hopper added the third goal, Shannon Doyle added two assists and Hailey Redd made 11 saves.
‘The biggest thing we did was we started playing as a team,? Snage said of erasing the 1-0 halftime deficit. ‘In the Lahser game, we linked as a team and looked like a good team in the second half. (Against Adams) we looked scattered.?
‘The team play in one game was exceptional and in the other I’d call it weak,? he added.
Adams avenged a 4-0 loss in district play last season. Snage downplayed that as a factor in the game, as he did the early 10 a.m. start and two tough league games earlier in the week.
‘Those are all excuses,? he noted. ‘Both teams put 11 players on the field. My hat’s off to Adams, they played well today.?
The Dragons are now 4-3-1 overall and 2-3-1 in league action. They sit alone in fourth place and will get a rematch with Adams on Tuesday (visit www.lakeorionreview.com for the results).
‘This is one of our bigger rivalries, so I think our kids will come out with a lot more fire on Tuesday,? Snage said. ‘Usually the second game of a back-to-back is a war.?
