Jim’s Cracker Barrel: a friendly family store

Celebrating 25 years in business at Jim’s Cracker Barrel, owner Rich Walker said there will be some big changes at the store to commemorate the occasion.
‘We are adding a beer cave and a new walk-in cooler,? said Walker. ‘Also, come by and check out our new Oakhill Cafe in April. It will have a family atmosphere and will be located at the east end of our property.?
Walker said he has expanded his whole line of roll-your-own cigarette bagged tobacco. ‘There is no reason to go to a smokers outlet, we have lower prices than most of them,? said Walker.
The liquor and wine selection Walker said rivals most grocery chains. ‘We have expanded our section of wine to 32 feet,? he said.
The wines carried at Jim’s Cracker Barrel come from all over the world. Cabernets, Chardonnays, merlots, champagnes, ports, zinfandels, sauvignon blancs, and pinot grigios comee from such diverse places as Australia, France, Italy, Germany, Spain and California. Wine gift baskets can also be created for any occasion.
If a customer doesn’t see just what they are looking for, it’s no problem. ‘I can special order anything you want. That will save my customers time and money,? said Walker.
One of the things Walker said he is most proud of is being able to give his customers one stop shopping. Walker said he has a complete line of groceries including a fresh produce section, dairy department; a butcher counter with meat cut on site and cut to specifications.
Other handy services for customers is an ATM machine along with a copy and fax machine. ‘I try to make sure my customers don’t have to waste gas going other places to find what they are looking for,? said Walker. ‘We sell lottery tickets, money orders and pre-paid phone cards too. If you are on your way to do some fishing, stop by and get some fresh bait. We carry Walt’s crawlers.?
Making new improvements to his store like fresh paint, new walls and new signs are just a few of the things Walker said he is looking forward to soon.
Most of all Walker said he likes getting to know his customers which he said creates a warm and friendly store.
