Hamilton’s of Ortonville, Inc., has been a fixture in the village of Ortonville for the past 74 years and has been owned by the Kratt family since 1977, providing feed for your animals, fuel for your vehicles and home, and superior customer service.
‘We are very informed and educated about all our products and how to use them,? says Lisa Kratt, whose husband, Bill Kratt, co-owns the feed and fuel store with his brother, Bob Kratt. ‘A lot of our customers say they can’t get anyone to spend time with them at other stores anymore, but we will spend whatever time is necessary.?
The store, which has five full-time employees and three part-time employees, carries feed for farm animals including horses, pigs, goats, cows, rabbits, and even pigeons, as well as for domestic pets such as dogs, cats and birds. Pet food brands include Canidae, Solid Gold, Avoderm, Diamond and Purina. Animal care products include pine shavings for bedding, muck buckets and trough feeders.
Hamilton’s is also the place to buy your turkeys, ducks, and chickens from March to June. Laying chickens, meat chickens and specialty chickens are all available and the staff can assist customers interested in raising poultry for 4-H.
Seasonal items offered include grass seed, fertilizers, pond and pool chemicals, bulk garden seeds, plants, deer food plots, and bird baths and feeders.
Hamilton’s is also your go-to store for fuel oils, gasoline and Torco racing gas for cars, boats, and snowmobiles.
The store makes home heating deliveries as well as deliveries to gas stations and contractors. Employees are also happy to sharpen chainsaws, lawn mower blades, garden utensils, or anything that needs an edge.
‘You’re not a number when you come in,? says Sales Manager Derrick Kratt. ‘We know 80 percent of our customers? first names. They know my father and grandmother and the whole family.?
