This is a continuing awareness from last month’s ‘Money Matters?.
What is family? Who is my Family? Am I from a traditional family? Am I from an adopted family? Am I part of a Church family? How about community family?
Where is the neighborhood? Does it matter? To whom does it matter?
What is family hype all about?
Where I come from, family means responsibility; family means commitment; family means sacrifice.
Joy, laughter, tears, anger, apologies, forgiving, misunderstanding, taking time all the time, even when it is inconvenient-all these color my concept of family.
Families are not perfect, not always recognized as pillars in a community, influential, poor, median or wealthy.
Families are made of individual personalities, peculiarities, illogicalities, impracticalities, practicalities, spiritualities, commonalities, rationalities, moralities, immoralities, liberalities, sentimentalities and mentalities.
Somewhere in the ‘alities? are individual interests. My favorite saying is human beings are related in that we all come from dysfunctional families.
The degree of dysfunctionality distinguishes one family from another.
There are aspects of family dynamics we cannot change, manipulate, erase, ignore or tolerate. Some reflection toward forgiveness and acceptance might be a place to start anew.
The choice is to create a new way of being, or carry the inherit web to future generations. Making peace with the past is to create a fruitful present; a gift to welcome a brand new year spreading seeds of hope.
To look back on the eighties contribution to family separation, did it produce independence with a price?
Children no longer purchase homes within walking distance from parents or relatives. Careers take priority over family attachments and often dictate new geographic locations.
Thus, the new reality is no infrastructure in place to care for the young and the aging parents. The price tag goes up when freedom and financial independence is the reality.
The past can only stop affecting the present or future, when individuals make a paradigm shift. Generally, change is not an easy undertaking; accepting responsibility for our thought process and action is vital.
Think it and it shall be that.
An inventory of family matters, priorities, direction, support leading to personal fulfillment; could bring a boost to the economy. Distance from heart matters/family matters; may be an influencing factor to the cell phone mania or other manias?
Life may be viewed as a mystery, none more mysterious than human behavior.
For the first time since I have been sharing heartfelt life lessons in the Clarkston News, I received a boost via an email. Thank you for taking time J I’ve been acknowledged verbally and that’s invigorating; yet, when it’s put in writing, it raises the vibration.
It’s all – good!
