New officers hold the reins at Clarkston’s Cedar Lodge No. 60 F. & A.M.
The freemasons’ 154th installation of officers was Dec. 15 at the Clarkston Masonic Temple, 1 East Washington Street.
‘It’s a remarkable thing ? your peers that are in the lodge with you decide that you are worthy and qualified enough to lead our group,? said Lawrence Hess, worshipful master for 2008. ‘It’s a remarkable feeling. I can’t even explain the feeling inside you get, the faith that everybody has in you to do this.?
The freemasons have been in this community since 1854 and their current lodge since 1868, said Tom Braun, secretary for 2008.
‘We do a lot of work with the historical society,? said Braun. “We helped them with their barn walk, we were ushers. We helped them with their cemetery walk; we do a lot of things like that.?
The lodge, as part of the Michigan Masons, also help host Michigan Child Identification Program events, where parents receive free, complete child identification kits, including dental impressions, DNA, color photo, finger prints, and recorded interview.
‘Our lodge in Michigan has more events than any other lodge when it comes the child identification, we’ve sponsored 21 events in the last three years,? said Braun.
