Goodrich – Good Grief! The entire Peanuts gang will be on stage at the Goodrich High School theater next week.
The heartwarming musical ‘You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown? will open at the Raymond C. Green Center for the Performing Arts, 8029 S. Gale Road, on Nov. 15 and will run through Nov. 17.
Based on Charles Schulz’s popular comic strip, ‘You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown? chronicles the ‘day in the life? events of Charlie Brown and his imaginative beagle, Snoopy.
The musical will feature songs including ‘My Blanket and Me,? ‘The Kite,? ‘The Baseball Game,? ‘Little Known Facts,? ‘Suppertime,? and ‘Happiness.?
‘I think the audience will get a deep sense of nostalgia to see the characters they read about in the comic strip come to life,? said Ian Gabrielson, who will play the part of Franklin. ‘I think this will also be a great experience for the kids who haven’t seen Charlie Brown comic strips.?
Freshman Paul Docter will play the part of Charlie Brown. ‘I am really excited, I have always wanted to be in a good musical. I really like my part because he is the main character and everybody likes him but he is also the lonesome character that nobody wants to hang out with,? said Docter.
Drama teacher/director Steve Mitchell and the cast started work on the production at the end of September and have rehearsed every day of the week since then. ‘Mr. Mitchell has done so much for us and this musical,? said Docter.
Mitchell said the show has really taught him a valuable lesson.
‘A tornado hit my home on August 24, and it has been one of the hardest things I have ever gone through in my life, but the play has reminded me that the truly important things in life aren’t objects or belongings, they are family and friends,? said Mitchell. ‘The last song of the show says it better than I ever could, ‘Happiness is anyone or anything at all that’s loved by you.?
