Controversy sells newspapers and boosts readership. Often, controversy is the result of caring passionately about an issue, and it’s not always a bad thing. Such is the case of the Ortonville Downtown Development Authority, the citizen-volunteer arm of the Village Council.
Today was my last day as secretary of the Ortonville DDA. The volunteers on the board of directors and those who staff events have had a tremendous two years of growth and learning-by-doing. The fact that we did not always agree is OK. If we were all of the same accord we would not have had the wealth of ideas and the wonderful and free community programs such as CreekFest, Night at the Movies, Car Show and BB&E.
If you have an opinion on how the DDA could improve, now’s your chance. There is room on the board as well as in the committees: promotion, organization, design and economic restructuring. In fact, if each adult who came to any of our events donated just one hour in planning or helping at the event, the few who have given so much of themselves would not feel so overwhelmed.
