A combination of youth, creativity and television production came together last week as Orion Neighborhood Television hosted their Summer Video Camp 2007.
The camp, open to middle school students, introduced participants to studio and field production, as well as editing.
The campers, Scripps Middle School sixth graders Michael Murtaugh and Casey Whittenberg and Oakview Middle School seventh graders Jacqueline Maznio and Lisa Powell, used their newly developed video production skills when they visited Detroit Public Television, interviewing staff members and videotaping their tour throughout the studio.
A general consensus of the students that attended the video camp was that this trip was their favorite thing about camp.
‘You got to see a different studio and how it works,? said Maznio.
‘We got to see how it really works behind the television screen,? added Powell.
The trip to PBS, as well as the summer video camp as a whole, was a way to introduce video production to younger individuals.
‘We focus so much on adults,? said ONTV Outreach Coordinator Molly Perry. ‘Camp was a way to bring in the younger generation and get them interested.?
The show produced by the campers about their trip to PBS will play on ONTV channel 10. Visit www.orionontv.org for a program schedule.
