Crossroads receives $36K from defunct community center

Last Friday, Crossroads for Youth received a $36,892 donation from the now-defunct Gingellville Community Center in Orion Township.
The center closed its doors last December and distributed its assets equally to Crossroads and two other non-profit organizations in Pontiac and Milford.
‘We are greatly appreciative of this donation, especially in these economically challenging times,? said Dr. Janet McPeek, president of Crossroads. ‘The money will enable us to continue offering high quality services to our kids and provide them with opportunities and activities essential to their success.?
The Gingellville Community Center was a fixture in Orion for 68 years, providing services like mentoring, programs for physically and mentally challenged residents and the donation of clothing and other items.
‘We wanted to help local people in need and keep the money local,? said Pamela Hutchison, former director of the Gingellville center. ‘We wanted to make sure the money goes to organizations that are struggling.?
Crossroads for Youth is a non-profit agency that services at-risk youth. They have helped thousands of kids in southeastern Michigan.
