Gameshow contestant gains fianc?, $50K

Although he didn’t come out smarter than a fifth-grader, former Oxford resident Sam Traylor landed a nice chunk of change and a life-long partner after his March 15 appearance on the gameshow ‘Are You Smarter Than a 5th-Grader??
Traylor was able to win $50,000 on the FOX show that measures the adult contestant’s knowledge of certain elementary subjects against five actual fifth-graders.
After deciding to pass on the question ‘how many square-inches would be in a square with 12-inch sides?? Traylor’s girlfriend, Marsha Polischuk, joined him on stage where he got down on one knee and proposed.
‘Honestly, I had no idea until an hour or so before going on stage that I was going to propose,? he said. ‘My thoughts were that I wanted to make sure I had enough money for a nice ring.?
Traylor said he enjoyed his time on the show, even though the anticipation before going on the show was ‘killer.?
‘I was jumpin? up and down feelin? pumped up just before going on,? he said. ‘After being on stage for a bit while winning money, things became more relaxed and less stressful.?
He said it was ‘quite a rush watching your dollar amount rise and rise.?
‘I had to stop, think, smile and enjoy the moment when (host Jeff Foxworthy) said ‘you’re leaving today with at least $25,000,?? he said.
After buying his fianc? the proper engagement ring, Traylor hopes to spend his winnings on a trip before putting the rest in the bank.
