Firm hired to search for new school super

Oxford school officials Feb. 27 voted 4-2 to hire the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) to conduct their search for a new superintendent.
Superintendent Virginia Brennan-Kyro will retire this June after 34 years of service, seven of which were in Oxford.
The MASB is a voluntary, non-profit association of local and intermediate boards of education located throughout the state of Michigan.
The cost to the district to hire MASB will be $7,500, which includes soliciting staff and community input, creating interview questions, posting vacancy notices through state and national channels, advertising in educational publications, and reviewing resumes, contract salary information and legal guidelines.
School Board Member Major Murray said the board thought it was a great benefit to the district to hire a search firm because board members don’t always have the extra time and resources.
‘They can do quite a lot of the legwork we can’t do, he said.
Oxford Schools used a search firm to help find a new superintendent in 1993 and 2000.
