OES Imagineers solve problems

Using nothing but everyday household items and K’NEX building toys, 15 students from Oxford Elementary School participated in the 9th Annual Imagineers Competition held Jan. 20 at Summit Place Mall in Pontiac.
Imagineers is a design contest for fifth-graders. It challenges the students to build something that will fill a need or solve a problem in the world today.
Judging is based on creativity, functionality, integrity of construction, conformance to submitted design and how well contestants use their two ‘mystery? items as part of their design.
Although none of the five teams placed at the competition, team Nanotechnicians made it to the semi-finals for their design of a probe for the human body.
Each of the team members received $25 for making it that far in the competition.
OES teacher Mary Kraniak, who sponsored the Imagineers teams, said she was proud of how students handled the competition and that they did a great job.
