A 56-year-old Oxford Township man is facing misdemeanor criminal charges for allegedly possessing and firing a handgun while intoxicated during a confrontation Sunday with Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies in the Lake Villa Manufactured Home Community on Lakeville Rd.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the residence of David Michael Scott on the corner of Parker Lake and Lake Shore around 6:30 p.m. for reports of a suicidal subject.
According to the sheriff’s report, when deputies arrived at Scott’s home he refused to come out and allegedly threatened to shoot them.
Deputies immediately surrounded the home from a distance and heard what sounded to be one gunshot fired from inside the home.
Residents nearby were told to leave the area. Parker Lake and Hosner Dr. were both closed to traffic.
The report stated Scott walked outside of the home with a handgun ‘pointed forward and in a down position,? then turned to walk back inside and shouted for the deputies to ‘go ahead and shoot? him because ‘I don’t care.?
According to the report, Lt. Al Whitefield, commander of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Oxford substation, made contact via telephone with Scott, instructing him to exit the home and put his weapons on the deck. Scott exited the home, dropped three handguns on the deck, then went back inside the home.
Whitefield called Scott again. The lieutenant was able to enter the home and talk Scott into coming outside where he was arrested.
Inside Scott’s home, deputies found six long swords on a wall, 11 daggers, 15 pocket knives, a pellet gun, 18 boxes of .45 GAP calibre federal cartridges, one 12-guage Mossberg pump-action shot gun and one .357 magnum Smith & Wesson 7-shot revolver, according to the sheriff’s report.
Scott’s live-in girlfriend also made a written statement in the report, indicating that Scott ‘had a mental breakdown? and was unemployed, behind in his bills and depressed. The girlfriend was at a friend’s house during the entire incident. A Preliminary Breath Test administered to Scott indicated he had a Blood Alcohol Content of .12 percent, according to Whitefield.
Scott was arraigned Monday in the Rochester Hills 52-3 District Court before Magistrate Marie Soma for possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol and for reckless use of a firearm, both of which are misdemeanors.
He was released on a $5,000 personal bond and has a pre-trial set for Oct. 11 at 8:30 a.m. before District Judge Julie Nicholson.
