Renee Hand said the inaugural Goodrich Tennis Challenge went so well, she’s anticipating the event will be an annual tradition.
‘We had such a good turnout,? the Goodrich varsity girls tennis coach said. ‘At the end of the day, everyone was telling us how much fun they had.?
Approximately 60 people showed up to the challenge, which took place Saturday, Sept. 23 at Genesys Athletic Club in Grand Blanc. The event was originally scheduled to take place at the Goodrich High School tennis courts, 8029 S. Gale Road, Goodrich.
Goodrich captain Katie Bradley said the event was moved to Genesys ‘because it was supposed to rain all day.?
All the matches took place on one of four courts at Genesys, and each match was scheduled for a one-hour time slot. The matches started at 8 a.m. and lasted until 5 p.m., when a drawing took place with each of the winners? names entered; the two winners took on Hand and her partner in a doubles match.
Each participant paid a $10 entrance fee and teamed with a friend to take on any of the girls on the tennis team to a doubles match. The match consisted of one set (first to six, win by two points).
Hand said the girls on the Martians? team were very enthusiastic about participating in the fundraiser. ‘All the girls had a good time,? she said.
Bradley said the girls enjoyed themselves at the event. ‘It went really well ? we had a lot of fun,? she said.
The event raised approximately $600 for the Goodrich tennis program, Hand said.
