The Wildcats? ground attack got back on the track last week as Oxford rolled to a 28-7 win at Fenton.
In addition, the mighty Wildcats starting defensive unit did not allow a touchdown against a Flint Metro League foe for the fourth consecutive week.
This week, the Wildcats entertain Brandon in the annual homecoming contest. The game starts at 6:55 p.m.
Coach Bud Rowley said the victory was important in the team’s quest for a Metro League title.
‘We played everyone, had two touchdowns called back and still won 28-7. Everyone played well,? Rowley said.
Oxford notched 378 yards for the game, which included 257 on the ground and 121 in the air.
The tough Cat defense held Fenton to 194 total yards for the game.
Oxford held a 7-0 advantage after one quarter and led 21-0 at halftime.
Vinnie Ives provided some excitement in the first quarter when he ran away on a 75-yard TD jaunt and had 110 yards rushing by halftime. He finished with 128 yards on the ground in only 10 carries.
Don Pohl kicked the first of his four conversions and Oxford led 7-0.
QB Jeremy Bukoski went two yards for Oxford’s second TD in the second quarter. Bukoski then connected with Eric Shipman on a 45-yard bomb with only 40 seconds left in the half. The pass came on the first play after the Wildcats recovered a Tiger fumble.
At halftime, Fenton had only 87 total yards against Oxford’s starting defensive unit.
Ives added another TD, on a 32-yard run, in the third quarter.
Fenton scored it’s only TD late in the fourth quarter on an 11-yard run by QB Miles Sullivan.
In addition to Ives? 128 yards rushing, Nick Collier has 54 yards on only three carries. Bukoski was three-for-six for 121 yards passing. Shipman had two catches for 70 yards while Zach Line had a 51-yard reception.
The victory improved Oxford’s league record to 3-1. Overall, the team’s 3-2.
