Goodrich’s varsity girls cross country team more closely resembled a hare than a tortoise at their most recent meet.
The Martians finished second out of seven teams at The Tortoise and The Hare invitational Saturday, Sept. 9 in Dexter. The Martians compiled a team score of 61, trailing only Dexter, which finished at 49.
Senior Kelsey Krych was the Martians? leading runner, finishing fifth overall with a time of 20:40. Senior Kelsey Meyers was close behind at eighth (20:57), while freshman Sunny Mahalak clocked in at 21:15.
The Goodrich boys team did not figure into the team scoring, but Coach Jennifer Sweet said sophomore Kirk Britton and freshman Cal Sesock did well individually.
‘They finished good for being in Division 2,? she said.
The next scheduled meet for the Martians is the Spartan Invitational Friday, Sept. 15. Sweet said the meet will be good for the team, since a lot of their Division 2 regional foes will also be in the meet.
‘We’ve always ran up to Division 1 and placed in the top five,? she said. ‘Usually, it’s been just the girls we’ve taken. This year, we’ll be running in Division 2. The girls have been doing a knockout job so far.?
