To paraphrase Detroit Tigers Hall of Fame broadcaster Ernie Harwell, Ortonville’s Nick Kwasiborski will be involved in a ‘two for the price of one? activity Saturday, June 24.
As a result of his performance in the sectional competition of the annual Pepsi Pitch, Hit & Run competition, Kwasiborski is scheduled to participate in the Detroit Tigers Team Pitch, Hit & Run championship that day at Comerica Park in Detroit. Kwasiborski is one of 16 sectional winners slated to take part in the competition.
The event is scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m. that day, with the results expected to be announced about 12:15 p.m. Winners of the Team Championships become eligible to qualify for the National Finals at the 2006 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, scheduled for Tuesday, July 11 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
As a result of qualifying for the competition, Kwasiborski, along with the other participants, will receive three complimentary tickets to the Detroit Tigers game later that day. The Tigers, who as of press time lead the American League Central Division with a 48-24 record, are slated to host the St. Louis Cardinals in interleague play at 7:05 p.m. that evening.
Prior to the game, Kwasiborski and the other finalists are scheduled to take part in a ceremony on the Comerica Park field.
Kwasiborski was one of four age group champions at the Pepsi Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run sectional competition May 20 at Brandon Middle School, 609 S. Ortonville Road, Ortonville. He won the age 13-14 group with a total score of 1,051.
